  • Day 246 – FIRE HYDRANT

We have a fire hydrant about 20 feet away from our driveway… comforting in a way, so I see it several times a day. Since I have drawn this, I have noticed that different parts of town have different looking fire hydrants. Hmmm…..

  • Day 245 – POCKET SQUARE

Today is picture day at our elementary school. As I was walking my daughter to school I was enjoying seeing all the kids dressed up in their picture day attire. Most wore a nice shirt and gym shorts, some in dresses, all with coifed hair and THEN I spotted the 5th grade boy in a navy blazer with a pocket square. Well done.

I felt inspired by his pocket square so I came home and pulled one out of my husband’s closet. I visited the Sid Mashburn blog to determine the correct way to fold the pocket square and decided on Sid’s favorite, the “fold-and-go”.

I hope that boy had a day just as fantastic as his picture day outfit.

  • Day 244 – APPLE

Apple season is right around the corner and I recently stocked up on Honeycrisp apples. In elementary school, because of all the allergies, kids are allowed to only bring a snack if it is a fruit or vegetable in its OWN SKIN. So, I’m thinking apple? Hence the reason for my stocking up.

  • Day 243 – KATYDID

Not an everyday occurrence but a blessing to see one for sure. This is a Greater Angle-wing Katydid and he showed up on our window screen yesterday. Nature is truly amazing. I had to include the photo because you need to see it in color.

  • Day 242 – FOOTBALL

Football season is here. The TV is tuned to college game day, the fantasy leagues are being formed and the football is being passed around the backyard. In honor of the season, I decided to draw the Wilson football that is too big for my tiny hands to throw. Go IRISH!

  • Day 241 – BALLOON DOG

My daughter’s piano teacher had one of these balloon dog sculptures in her studio so I drew it during the lesson. Her’s was bubble gum pink and was wearing a tutu. I decided to draw it sans tutu.

  • Day 240 – J CREW CROPPED JEANS

My current favorite jeans are the J. Crew – high rise – cropped – wide leg – frayed hem – jeans. It’s a mouthful. Jeans are often impossible but these work. The high rise keeps everything covered, the wide leg feels roomy and cool and the cropped leg is perfect for the transitional days like today, the “false fall” if you will. I’ve hesitated in drawing things that are larger in size but I felt like the jeans are an everyday thing and need to be here.

  • Day 239 – SCOTCH PACKING TAPE

I’m pacing around the house looking for things to draw, because I have drawn A LOT. And I see the packing tape. (I only buy Scotch because it is by far the best). We recently returned a package and the packing tape never made it back to its resting place. Who would have thought a sketch of packing tape would look so appealing?
