  • Day 141 – CLEANED CORN

I was actually dreading today’s post because I wasn’t sure how it would turn out and I had promised everyone (the few who do read this…) that there would be corn part two. I shucked the corn this morning and selected the smallest one to draw. It was still big. My hand cramped and my fingers started to fall asleep but it’s done. Looking forward to slathering it with butter tonight for dinner along with our brats!

  • Day 140 – CORN

I just bought 4 ears of corn at the grocery store for dinner tomorrow. Today, however, they remain in their husks and became the perfect subject for the blog. Come back tomorrow to see a drawing of the cleaned corn. How’s that for a teaser…..

  • Day 139 – NECKTIE

I pulled this Sid Mashburn necktie out of my husband’s closet to draw and I’m not sure I folded it correctly but you get the drift. It’s a rich chocolate brown color with tiny bullseyes in red, dark orange and two shades of blue. Sid Mashburn is his favorite as the quality is top notch. I was debating between his cream colored button fly denim jeans, the khaki pants, a simple white dress shirt or his navy blazer and I took the easy route with the tie. Next time he orders a shirt I will draw one when it arrives all nicely pressed and folded.

  • Day 138 – SAFETY PIN

This is something you rarely need but when the need arises it is the ONLY thing that will work. I remember a time when we would put beads on safety pins and attach them to the shoelaces of our tennis shoes. Nothing has changed about its design. Perfection needs no tweaking.

  • Day 137 – GIFT BOW

This is a GIANT gold gift bow. I tend to favor ribbon over gift bows but some packages just call for a giant bow. It has only been used for one Christmas season so it is still in good shape. I have several others that I swear have been reused for over a decade. The trick is to NEVER use the adhesive on the back (always use a loop of tape instead) and as soon as the gift has been opened you must quickly retrieve the bow before it is crumpled with the wrapping paper and thrown in the garbage bag.

  • Day 136 – FILSON WALLET

This is my husband’s Filson wallet. A very compact, slim wallet made from a heavy duty fabric and chocolate brown leather. It’s a lovely well made, built to last wallet and I feel like Filson should be paying me for all these unsolicited ads… hint hint…But let’s talk about wallets… they are on the verge of extinction thanks to digital wallets on our phone. But remember the wallets of our grandfathers? The ones that had the plastic sleeves for family snapshots. A mini brag book in your back pocket. The small snap pocket that had a few coins and there was more cash than cards. And I can’t help but think of the Seinfeld episode where George’s wallet is finally so packed with receipts that it can no longer fold in half.

  • Day 135 – CLOTHES PIN

I really wish I had an old school clothes pin…. the plain wooden ones with the ball top and no spring because those are true classics. I doubt these new versions would even be strong enough to hold down sock, let alone a terrycloth towel blowing in the wind. This particular one is painted white with gold polka dots on the side and it constantly breaks. Really pretty useless…. more of a craft supply. Man, I am DOWN on this clothes pin.

  • Day 134 – CROC

This is a very well worn, scuffed and loved, Right Pink Croc. It is currently in “sport mode”. While it is unoccupied now, it may be called into duty without any warning. Scurrying feet in the mud room. Some bare and sweaty, others in dirty socks. Is it go time? Basketball? Bike ride? Dog walk? Whatever the activity, Right Pink Croc is there…. though often not with Left Pink Croc. Then the yelling and frantic “looking” for Left Pink Croc occur until mom finds it.
