  • Day 168 – HAIR CLIP

I used to wear a claw clip like this every single day about 15 years ago. I found this one buried in a drawer in the bathroom with a nice coating of hair spray. Perhaps it is time to let the clip go.

  • DAY 167 – SLEEVELESS TEE

I’m generally not a fan of lots of exposed skin, but according to my phone, the real feel right now is 96 degrees. Tank tops and sleeveless tees are allowed. And out of 13 letters in sleeveless tee, 7 of them are e’s. Crazy. The heat is affecting me.

  • Day 166 – ICE CREAM CONE

The kids were in shock yesterday when at the grocery store I agreed to buy supplies for s’mores AND ice cream cones. Little did they know, I had my eye on the cones for a drawing subject. I really don’t like ice cream cones. They are messy, have very little flavor and I despise the soggy texture of the rim when it gets all melty… and the napkin that you try to wrap around it to contain the mess… it’s all gross. But it’s a summer staple.

  • Day 165 – BEER BOTTLE

Cheers to you, Dads! A special shout out to the dad, my husband, that is sitting right behind me as I type this. Thanks for being the rock that keeps us safe, supports us and makes us laugh. He will likely be consuming this beer today while watching the US Open. I fine way to spend a Father’s Day.

And another shout out to my own dad. He’s been the best from day one. I struck the lottery in life with him as my dad.

  • Day 164 – SEEDLING

Today I was desperately trying to pull clover from the front lawn… an impossible task. And then I pulled out this seedling. Perfectly shaped Maple leaves. Tiny stem. The seed still at the base with roots starting to take shape. I ran inside and drew it before it would wilt, feeling slightly bad that I had ended it’s journey. And I remembered that I had drawn a helicopter seed on day 123! Incredible to see what nature can do in just 41 days.

  • Day 163 – STACKED STONES

We are nature collectors in this house. We save shells, feathers, pinecones, tree bark, acorns, seed pods and of course stones. We have stones from Lake Michigan and Lake Superior and of course inland lakes of Northern Wisconsin. One summer we were REALLY into stacking stone sculptures. This particular assortment was brought home and is used as a bookend in our family room. Full disclosure… the stones didn’t sit perfectly so gorilla glue was used. <shhh>

  • Day 162 – LEGO GUY

I decided to draw something Lego related and after looking through Lego speed champion cars, and horse stables and boats and flowers… I landed on a simple Lego guy. We think he belongs to a Jurassic Park Raptor boat set but are unsure. He was at the bottom of a giant plastic tote of Lego sets. I chose him for his facial expression and his amazing head of hair.

  • Day 161 – WINDEX

Why is it blue? Doesn’t matter. It works the best out of all the glass cleaners, hands down. We have one window that needs a daily cleaning. The window by the dog’s chair through which she views the entire front yard, driveway and street. It’s where she does her morning “screen time” and, being a flat faced dog, she leaves quite the splatter spray of droplets. The label is not exact…. labels are hard.

  • Day 160 – HEADPHONES

Ever have a day, or a drawing, that didn’t turn out the way you had planned? Yep. Me too.
