  • Day 255 – FIREWOOD

Fall is in the air and that means less daylight, cool nights and crackling fires. I’m much more of a fall campfire gal than a summer one. I don’t want ambient heat and burning embers when it’s 90 degrees outside with high humidity and it’s still light out at 8:00 pm. I want the flannel blanket, mid 60’s, the bourbon on ice, and the s’mores at 6 o’clock. But that’s just me.

  • Day 254 – ORCHID BLOSSOM

I’ve done an orchid before but it was the whole plant in its pot. So this time I decided to focus on the blossom as I have an orchid that is in full beautiful bloom.

  • Day 253 – ZIPPER

I was sitting at my daughter’s piano lesson, desperate for something to draw and then I looked down at my jeans and saw my zipper. Bingo. I started to draw it and was fascinated by the YKK letters on the zipper pull because they are on every zipper I can recall. So I Googled it and YKK is apparently the brand name of the world’s largest zipper manufacturer, Yoshida Kogyo Kabushikigaisha, in Japan. They make over half of the world’s zippers. Now you know.

  • Day 252 – MINI PUMPKIN

Oh Trader Joe’s… you got me good today. I was first greeted with a bin of mini orange and white pumpkins for $0.99 each. I selected two. Then I entered the store and everything has become orange. I gasped when I saw the apple cinnamon sourdough loaf of bread. I suspect that will be my son’s after school snack today… toasted with butter and cinnamon sugar. There were pumpkin bread mixes, harvest vegetable egg bites, soups, pumpkin cold brew coffee and a cinnamon lip mask to name only a few. My quick pop in for 2 things, soon became 20. But the mini pumpkins… they get me every time.

  • Day 251 – CROW

I love crows. Everything about them. I love their caw. I love their size and the fact that their black feathers can appear iridescent. I love that they can hold grudges for up to 17 years if you wrong them. I love that a group of them is called a “murder”.

I have crows on the brain right now because I am going full on crow for our front porch this halloween. Think Alfred Hitchcock’s The Birds.

  • Day 250 – PINECONE II

I did my first pinecone on day 117 and decided to do part 2 today. This one is tiny but its form and structure is just as impressive as the bigger ones.

  • Day 249 – CHICK-FIL-A FRIES

Okay, not an EVERY day thing but an every once in a while treat. Last night was take out night in our house and the kids agreed on Chick-fil-A for their treat. By the time I realized I wanted to draw the waffle fries box, the fries were gone. So here is the empty Chick-fil-A box. And side note… for the first time ever, we ordered the side of melted cheese for the fries and we will be doing that again. Thank you Chick-fil-A for giving me the night off 🙂

  • Day 248 – PEPPER MILL

I started day 1 of this blog with my salt shaker and now, 248 days later, I have given the pepper mill its turn. Long forgotten during the daily cooking process in this household, the pepper mill sits tucked away on the counter, hiding behind the olive oil and the red wine vinegar decanter. It sports an oily/dusty patina as it sits so close to the stovetop. A little neglected. But when a special occasion meal is prepared, it steps up.

  • Day 247 – SEWING BASKET

I am not a seamstress by any means but when the need arises for a button to be sewn, hole to be closed, jeans to be patched or basic kid craft to be made…. I pull out my Longaberger sewing basket. It is loaded with needles of all kinds, random bits of elastic and decorative trim, iron on patches, buttons, safety pins and gobs of tangled threads. But the basket… the basket makes me look pro.
