  • Day 273 – GOLDENROD

The kids had the day off of school today and we decided to walk to the grocery store to get some exercise and the few groceries we needed for our chicken taco dinner. Along the way, we have to cross under the train tracks. Near the tracks there are always weeds growing but among the weeds were some goldenrod flowers. Their late summer, early fall, yellow blossoms are beautiful.

  • Day 272 – YARD SPOTLIGHT

I realize I have done quite a few posts on my Halloween crow-themed front porch decor. The decor was missing something. Spotlights. A quick Amazon order of 4 corded color changing LED yard spotlights has solved our lighting issue. Now at night, these crows, birdcages and pumpkins are lit by a series of purple spotlights. The remote has 14 color options (yes 14) so we can use these for Christmas too. Squeal of delight!

  • Day 271 – SUNGLASSES

These are my gold rimmed aviator sunglasses that I never wear. You see, I have progressive eyeglasses and there was no way I was paying $400 of a pair of prescription sunglasses. So I opt for the “squint” method of seeing in the sun. It’s very effective. Reminds me of the Seinfeld episode when George loses his glasses and squints to have good vision… then he bites into an onion thinking it’s an apple. A classic.

  • Day 270 – SHOE STRETCHER

The other day, I heard my husband say, “shoe stretchers are really useful”. So today, I went into his closet and pulled one out of his dress shoes. Here is the left shoe stretcher and even though it has been living in his shoe, it smells really good…

  • Day 269 – BIRDCAGE

Halloween decorating has started here and if you read my CROW post, you would know that we are going all in on crows this Halloween. I was desperate to find some black simple birdcages to hang on the front porch and Oriental Trading had the BEST set of three. They are currently hanging from fishing line and each has a crow or two inside. The price was right and free shipping to boot!

  • Day 268 – CANTALOUPE SLICE

This morning I was cutting my cantaloupe, or as we like to call it, orange melon, and quickly drew a slice. I was shocked to find that this orange melon has amazing texture and a sweet taste. Most of the time, I pick them and they end up being tasteless or hard as a rock. Having a winner morning here so far!

  • Day 267 – BENCH VISE

This is the bench vise that my dad installed, along with a custom workbench, in our garage when we first moved into our house. While we aren’t carpenters here by any means, we have used this quite a bit. It has held wood of course, but also PVC pipe and we even tried to crack a geode in it once. I usually have random things that need to be cut and this is the only thing that will keep it in place.

  • Day 266 – HALF A FLUTE

We have a new instrument in the family! My daughter has the privilege of trying band this year at school and she selected the flute! Partly because her aunt played the flute in school and partly because she got to practice blowing across the tops of empty beer bottles over the summer. She has been a champ at practicing, pulling it out many times throughout the day, working on her tone. I was so excited to feature something that is so treasured by her… and then I started to draw. Um… the flute is 26″ long …. my sketchbook is 12″.

I present, HALF a flute! The easy half, I might add….

  • Day 265 – SUCTION CUP HANGER

Desperation has set in. Been a busy day and it’s 8:00 at night and I haven’t drawn a thing. I open up the everything drawer and the first thing I see is a suction cup hanger. Yes, that was in my drawer. I would often use them to hang little kid made sun catchers in the windows. Currently we have only one sun catcher on display. My daughter has a unicorn one made from melted beads in her room… the kind that comes in a craft kit that involves baking it in your oven filling the house with noxious fumes… that one. So the SPARE suction cup is in the drawer. Right where it should be.
