  • Day 176 – DOWNSPOUT ELBOW

You may not consider your downspout elbow to be that exciting but I certainly appreciate it. When the torrential rains come, this little aluminum masterpiece directs the water away from your house. Sure it can also be a source of clogs (I personally have removed a chunky hunk of gunk from one)… but how else would you connect the gutter on your soffit to your downspout?

  • Day 175 – PAPERMATE INK JOY

Today was a busy day. A Papermate Ink Joy pen kind of day. What is absolutely amazing about this particular pen, my favorite pen, is that the ink is BROWN!

  • Day 174 – SHELL

While attempting to declutter the basement and go through old craft supplies I found this bag of shells. I believe that they originally came from my grandparents’ house, migrated to my parents’ house and then ended up with me. We have used them in various projects. I remember one instance when a similar shell was used to hold red “berries” (beads) in a treehouse hotel for woodland creatures.

  • Day 173 – MINI WATERMELON

We stopped at Trader Joe’s today and while I was impressed with the giant watermelon for $5.99, my mental refrigerator Tetris was unable to find space for it. And then I saw this cute tiny mini watermelon. $3.99 but the fridge real estate is worth the money. Now if it is truly seedless, I might even pay $4.99 for it.

  • Day 172 – DRAGONFLY

The dragonflies have hatched in Northern Wisconsin and this one is very new… the wings are still forming and drying. My Dad took a picture of it and sent it to me yesterday. Some Native American cultures believe that dragonflies represent the souls of loved ones that have passed on. I like that. Cannot wait to be up North to see them in person. Thank you Dad, for the preview.

  • Day 171 – TUFTED OTTOMAN

Happy Summer Solstice! What better way to celebrate the day than with a velvet tufted ottoman. Ha! My daughter was at her piano lesson yesterday and I brought my sketchbook to draw something while I was there and the ottoman was the first thing in my line of sight. I will have to bring it next time I go as well because her teacher has a wonderful room full of colorful trinkets and books. An inspiring space indeed!

  • Day 170 – SEAM RIPPER

You infrequently need one, but when you have to open up a sewn pocket, there is nothing that works better than a seam ripper. I don’t have much more to add.

  • Day 169 – RING POP

Found this in our candy drawer and decided to draw it. The old ring pop. I was horrified, however, when I read the ingredients. First of all, it states on the packaging, “contains a bioengineered food ingredient.” The first two ingredients are sugar and glucose syrup (also sugar) and it has the dreaded Red 40 dye. And the icing on the cake, “Made in Mexico”. Ring pop, meet garbage.
